  MMSR Domain Training: Language and Literacy
Child Development, Curriculum, Professionalism, Community and Special Needs

This class explores the language and literacy domain of MMSR and what is required to achieve school readiness in this domain. Learn strategies for supporting the development of language and literacy skills, methods for assessing development in this domain, and ideas for involving families in children’s language and literacy development.  PLEASE NOTE: This a two-day training session.  You must attend both days to receive a certificate.

Child Development and Curriculum (Intermediate)

This class will explore the varied levels of language development in infants and toddlers; how to engage in communication with newborns; what are age appropriate expectations and further how we can use this knowledge to build upon what a child is showing us about his or her capabilities.  Having a clear understanding of newborn and infant receptive language development assists providers in early childhood settings to best plan for their infants and toddlers expressive language development.

Professionalism (All levels)
This course covers basic concepts of ethics in the child care setting, including but not limited to setting organizational values (mission, goals), standards and accreditation, working with diverse families and staff confidentiality.  Please note:  Individual modules may be taken for core of knowledge credit; however, to count toward the 45 Hour Director’s Pre- Service Requirement, all modules must be taken in order.

It will soon be mandatory for every program to have someone on staff who is trained to administer medication to children.  This class meets all Office of Child Care (OCC) requirements.  Please note: Everyone taking this training must pass an English and Math test which will be given prior to the start of the class.  Certificates will be issued by the approved trainer rather than the Resource Center. Class size limited.

  Maryland Model for School Readiness (MMSR) Series
Maryland Model for School Readiness (MMSR) is a statewide school readiness framework.  It is defined by early learning standards that outline expectations for what all children should know and be able to do by the end of kindergarten.  Our MMSR training is designed to prepare child care providers to meet the school readiness needs of children in their care. 
PLEASE NOTE: This training consists of nine modules, each six hours long. Classes will be held on Saturdays and in the evenings, beginning on Saturday, September 25 and conclude on March 26, 2011.

This class explores the mathematical thinking domain of Maryland Model for School Readiness (MMSR) and what is required to achieve school readiness in this domain. Learn strategies for supporting the development of mathematical thinking skills, methods for assessing development in this domain, and ideas for involving families in the development of mathematical thinking skills in children.
